From July 18-24, Hawaii Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.
From July 18-24, Hawaii Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.
During that period, Kona officers arrested six drivers while Puna officers arrested four and South Hilo officers two, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Officers in South Kohala and North Hilo arrested one motorist in each district.
So far this year, there have been 605 DUI arrests compared with 562 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.7 percent.
There have been 804 major accidents so far this year compared with 866 during the same period last year. There have been 12 fatal crashes on Hawaii Island in 2016, resulting in 13 fatalities.
